DECEMBER
Winter work
The onset of the winter months means different things to different people. There is no doubt that most of us look forward to a break during which the weeds don’t grow and there is no need to mow the paths or trim the edges. For some there is little to do except to harvest the hardy produce that is still standing but you can still dig over your plot and remove any remaining weeds.
Preparing your plot for the coming season
This the fun part when seed purchases can be planned and made. With this in mind what you plant and where depends on good crop rotation. It also depends on your soil conditions but there is very little that cannot be grown on your allotment. Crop rotation helps prevent a build of disease and pest problems.
